Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how LITTLEBITOFPERIL AI LLC (“LittleBitOfPeril AI”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with our website and our software applications, including Aura Academic AI Assistant (“the App” or “our apps”).
The short version. Our apps are local-first. They run their AI models on your own device. We do not require an account, we do not use analytics or telemetry, we operate no server that receives your content, and we do not send your content to any third-party AI provider. The only network activity is for features you actively invoke, such as web search.
1. Who we are
LITTLEBITOFPERIL AI LLC is the data controller for the limited processing described in this policy. You can reach us at privacy@littlebitofperil.ai.
2. Information the App processes on your device
When you use the App, the following information is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to us:
- Your prompts and conversations with the AI assistant.
- Files and documents you open, create, or ask the App to work with.
- Conversation history and memory the App maintains to provide continuity between sessions. This is stored on your device in an encrypted form and can be cleared by you.
- Microphone audio, if you use voice input. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device; audio is not recorded to a file or sent anywhere.
- Generated content — text, documents, and images the App produces — saved to ordinary folders on your device that you control.
We have no access to any of this information. It stays on your computer unless you choose to share it.
3. Information that leaves your device
Some features require the internet. When and only when you use them, the App makes outbound requests:
| Feature | What is sent, and to whom |
|---|---|
| Web search | Your search query is sent to a search provider (for example, DuckDuckGo) to return results. |
| Reading a web page or article | A request is sent to the website address you provided, to retrieve that page. |
| Academic research | Your query is sent to scholarly services such as arXiv, Semantic Scholar, and Crossref to find papers. |
| Image generation | Runs locally on your device. No prompt or image is transmitted. |
These requests go directly from your device to the third-party service. They are not routed through us, and we do not receive a copy. Each third-party service has its own privacy practices, which govern what it does with a request it receives.
The AI model itself never uses the network. Your prompts are answered by a model running on your own hardware. They are never sent to us or to any external AI company.
4. What we do not do
- We do not require or offer user accounts, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or passwords through the App.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising SDKs, crash-reporting services, or telemetry of any kind.
- We do not operate a backend server that stores your prompts, files, or history.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we do not collect it.
- We do not use your content to train AI models.
5. Content reports
If the App lets you report AI-generated content you find inappropriate, that report is written to a file on your own device. It is not sent automatically. If you choose to send it to us, that happens through your own email program, at your initiative, and you can see exactly what it contains first. If you email us a report, we use it only to investigate and improve content safety.
6. This website
Our website is a set of static pages. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider may process standard server logs (such as IP addresses and requested URLs) for security and to keep the site running; these logs are not used to identify or profile visitors. If we ever add a contact form or newsletter, this policy will be updated first.
7. Children's privacy
Our apps are general-purpose study tools. They do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because there is no account system and no data collection, no personal information about a child is transmitted to us.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information a company holds about you. Because we do not collect or store your personal information, we generally have nothing to retrieve or erase. Data held locally by the App is under your direct control: you can view it, export it, or delete it on your device at any time. If you have emailed us (for support or a content report), you may ask us to delete that correspondence by writing to privacy@littlebitofperil.ai.
9. Data security
Data the App stores on your device (such as conversation memory) is kept in an encrypted, integrity-checked form. The security of your device itself — your operating system account, disk encryption, and physical access — is managed by you.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the revised version here. Material changes will be noted prominently on this page.
